A wonderful example from Lucy Adams, former HR Director at the BBC and a speaker at yesterday’s National Housing Federation Leadership Summit, illustrating how people resist change. The housing sector, like many others, is sailing through a veritable storm.
When asked to describe the “new norm” Elizabeth Austerberry, Chief Executive of Moat, put up a slide of a rollercoaster. Yes, that’s just about it. One moment we’re on the way up, the next we’re on the way down. Just when we think we know what we’re coping with, then it changes again. Continuous change is the “new norm.”
When is it going to settle down? It isn’t – it never will.
And what was the most important thing I took away from the day? The message that we must raise our game in the housing sector and tell everybody our story about the essential work housing associations do.
