Rumours are circulating of even greater restrictions to those already imposed through the new tier 4 in London and the South-east. Another national lockdown may happen within days and more than 40 countries have banned arrivals from the United Kingdom as they try to keep out a new fast-spreading variant of coronavirus.
The mutation of the Covid-19 virus is believed to spread between people with up to 70% greater efficiency than previous strains. It has now been detected across the UK, and Johnson’s chief scientific adviser said stronger curbs were likely.
